How Podcasting and Blogging Changed My Life

By: Anthony Hayes

Over the course of the past year I’ve experienced a slew of life altering affirmations. First and foremost, the birth of my beautiful daughter Violet. A journey you can follow along with in my blog; Raising Violet – The Daddy Diaries.

My thirtieth birthday also happen to fall on the same day as my first Father’s Day, making it an even more special day.

I am extremely fortunate and grateful. I’ve got my career, a loving family, all I was missing was an outlet for my creativity.
Then I found podcasting & blogging.
While listening to my favorite podcasts via Spreaker, “The DiRT” with Marie Lanza and The Tiffany Granath Show, I learned of the podcasting revolution.

Apple says that those billion subscriptions are spread across 250,000 unique podcasts in more than 100 languages, and that more than 8 million episodes have been published in the iTunes Store to date. (Source Macworld)

Me Myself and I Radio Podcast

On a whim, I experimented with the Spreaker iOS app on my smartphone with no direction, nor purpose. As of December 11, 2015 I’ll have been podcasting for two years! Now, 25 episodes and counting I’m beginning to find my voice and others are taking notice. Me Myself and I Radio is an ever-evolving process of Self Discovery just as my message.

With staggering numbers in the hundreds of thousands, it can be difficult to gain momentum in this ever-evolving revolution called Podcasting. Research has told me that podcasting is niche specific. In other words, to have your message heard your must dedicate your show entirely to a specific topic or your area of expertise.

While I understand this concept, I didn’t feel comfortable putting my show in a preverbial box. I feel like Me Myself and I is just broad enough that anyone can find value in it.

We do these challenges to learn about ourselves–by doing. I believe taking action is the best way to discover the habits, skills and knowledge to get ‘Unstuck,’ get on track and reach our goals.

On Me Myself and I Radio I cover topics such as Personal Development, Habits, Fear, Failure, Mindset, Meditation, Productivity, Strengths & Weaknesses, Emotional Intelligence, Personality, Sales, Mindfulness, Productive Thinking, Communication, Self-Awareness, Personal Finances

Podcasting has taught me a lot about Myself, others and the world around us. However I still felt as though I was coming up short. My book, The Science of Being couldn’t get here quick enough and I needed an outlet to strengthen my message until it was published. Enter The Blog.

The Blog(s)

The first of two: Me Myself and I Radio #blog is meant to compliment, and echo the message of the podcast and book. It serves a road map as well as extended show notes for each episode, all wrapped up in my mantra; Keep on Flowing, Just Be…

Raising Violet – The Daddy Diaries

My second blog Raising Violet – The Daddy Diaries is dedicated to my first child. I set out to share my experiences as a first time father with other dads just like me. To my disbelief, this journey has sparked rave reviews and avid readers.

Learning by Doing

In order to sharpen and polish my new found hobbies, I would need learn more about them. I actively do this a number ways:
1.) Google Searches and YouTube Tutorials.
2.) Following, listening, and reading from top industry pioneers.
3.) Attending webinars.
4.) Community groups, Google hangouts.
5.) A lot of Trial and Error.
I’m nowhere close to where I see the magnitude of my message being one day. But I’ve met a bunch of great people along the way who have helped me to learn so much about the Me Myself and I elements. They include Joe Pardo from Dreamers Podcast and Author of 31 Life Changing Concepts, Digital Dads, Chris Wilson & Stephen Warley from the UnStuckable podcast, AC Fuller from writer 2.0 podcast and Author of Anonymous SourceDarienne Dorazio from #MISSIONLove, Sam Shelley, Marie Lanza, and Colin Chambers to name a few. I plan to include these names amongst others to the interview line up on my show. The question is will they accept? Subscribe and tune in to the Me Myself and I Radio Podcast to find out!

The Number One Way for Managing Stress

By: Anthony Hayes

Keep on Flowing, Just Be…

Just BREATHE…

Sounds simple enough right? Not quite. Breathing instinctively for life and control of breath for emotional balance are two different processes. Oftentimes we underestimate the power of a breath. We take breathing for granted. Meanwhile, this single element is the benefactor of all existence. The question is can you find a balance…?

Some years ago my therapist gave me a simple stress test. It used a short questionnaire and color coded card which worked off body heat. It’s a chemically treated strip that changes color with changes in temperature. The more relaxed and less stressed you are the more dilated the blood vessels.

The importance of the outcome of the exercise became apparent to me and my overall well-being. Considering I was more stressed then I anticipated, as this was not the main purpose of my visit that day. We all get anxious at times. Usually over something silly and small but to us it is a very big deal. It may come on so rapidly, without warning there is no preparing for it. Or is there?

The timing can be unpredictable, however the series of events leading up to a stressful moment, or trigger, is usually par for the course. Here is some common triggers I’ve come across.

  • Rushing – Nothing is worth rushing to do. Set your clock ahead 12-15 minutes. Despite what you may think your do NOT work well under pressure. No one does. In fact, studies show an increase of adrenaline in times of emotional distress is the bodies response to this overwhelming situation. As a result, we feel a sense of accomplishment. Meanwhile we just completely overloaded our brain ultimately exhausting our most precious resource. So why 12-15 minutes? 5 minutes is pointless. 10 minutes may account for some variables, but not all. I’ve found around 15 minutes is my personal sweet spot for completing a project or arriving some where I need to be.
  • Situational – Clutter and disorganization causes me unwanted stress. I do my best to tidy up as I go. Admittedly, at times I too get behind on my tasks. Things happen. But I do my best to take time to breath just before I anticipate a problem will arise.
  • Energy – Have you ever walked into a room, all is quiet, cold, and everyone around you suggests by mere body language that something is off. As it turns out Steve’s cat Fluffy used the last of her nine lives that morning and got ran over as he backed out of his driveway. An unfortunate event certainly but no one even knew Steve had a cat in the first place. The universe is made up of these energies. From science with protons to neutrons, and emotional energy as well. Steer clear of the unnecessary ones.

The Solution to managing ALL Stress

“BREATH INTENTIONALLY WITH INTENTION”

Even if it means excusing yourself for a ‘bathroom’ break, take that moment. Keep on Flowing, Just Be…Just BREATHE.

  1. Close your eyes (if surrounding environment permits)
  2. Inhale deeply through your nose, and exhale completely out of your mouth.
  3. By the third breath begin to subtly soften your exhalation.
  4. By the fifth breath begin to subtly soften your inhalation.
  5. Breaths 6-10 count each time you inhale and exhale.
  6. Open your eyes, have a stretch, and something similar to a yawn. Either separately or simultaneously.

In closing, it is not a perfect system. However with time, and practice, it can be the deciding factor to better manage stress.
